Beauty Statement
Beauty is not purely an aesthetic trait. The primary tenant of beauty is that it evokes awe. The feeling of awe connects the beauty of a cathedral, a flower, a baby all together. Beauty, Truth, and Goodness; these are the transcendentals in the Catholic faith. The idea is that these three traits describe God. Anything that has one or more of these traits is a reflection of God. In other words, beauty is a human attempt at perfection. Beauty is also the the fingerprint of God. There does not seem to be one definition for beauty, but there are some traits that seem to be consistent. Craftsmanship is the pinnacle of beautiful design. An object that lacks in craftsmanship seems to automatically disqualify itself from the beautiful. While this is particularly true for design, it also transcends to many realms, such as sport, dance, music, and more. Harmony is another trait that beauty tends to have. Proportions should be balanced and bring the viewer or user peace. Intention is another trait of beauty. The organization, aesthetic choices, and meaning are all to be considered and intentional. Now while these traits may not directly translate to all the beauty in the world this seems to be a good framework for making an attempt at beauty. It is also important to note that something that breaks these rules can still be visual interesting, however, beauty is something entirely different. Beauty seems to be mostly objective to me. It is akin to truth and goodness in my heart. While hard to describe, it is real. Following these ideas from the past and at other prominent work we can work towards what we might call beautiful.
